Is That Journal Peer Reviewed?

Is that a scholarly journal? Ulrichsweb can answer that question. Ulrichsweb (the online version of Ulrich’s Directory of Periodicals) is the authoritative source of bibliographic and publisher information on more than 300,000 periodicals of all types: academic and scholarly journals, open access publications, peer-reviewed titles, popular magazines, newspapers, newsletters, and more from around the world. Faculty and graduate students will find Ulrichsweb a convenient way to find publishing venues for their own research. Links to Ulrichsweb can be found on any Research Databases selection screen.

ProQuest Central Now at the Walden Library

ProQuest Central is a major interdisciplinary, full-text database of over 8,400 academic journals. It was purchased especially to support our undergraduate programs, but benefits Walden students, faculty and staff at all levels of research.
Included with our subscription to ProQuest Central is:

• ABI/INFORM, a standard-in-the-field business database with full-text articles from newspapers, academic journals, and trade publications; information about 60,000+ companies; and the full text of the Wall Street Journal
• ProQuest Medical Complete, which includes over 1200 full text journals including the American Journal of Public Health and the New England Journal of Medicine
• Joanna Briggs Institute Evidence-Based Nursing Content, which includes systematic reviews, evidence summaries, and best practice information sheets

All of the library’s ProQuest databases can be searched at once from any ProQuest database. Just click on “Select Multiple Databases” on any ProQuest search screen. To find out if your favorite journal is included in ProQuest Central or any of our other databases, use our A-Z Full-Text Title List available from any of the Research Database screens. A-Z will tell you if we own it, which database it’s in and what years we have available. Then click right through to the linked database. It’s just that easy!

Library Reference Unavailable July 4

The Library reference service will be closed on July 4th to celebrate Independence Day in the U.S. Regular hours resume July 5th.

EBSCO is Changing!

EBSCO is changing their interface in July and all Walden EBSCO databases will be affected. The appearance and search functions of our EBSCO databases will change with this upgrade. Be prepared! Go to our Research Databases page and click on any link labeled “EBSCO is Changing!” to learn more.

Planning for Transition from Indiana University

As Walden University grows, the library grows, too. In January of 2009, the library’s reference service will move from Indiana University to Walden’s Minneapolis headquarters. Reference librarians will be located around the country to cover more areas and more time zones.  Watch the library’s web site and this space for more news about this transition.

Ulrichsweb Coming Soon

The library has a subscription to the online version of Ulrich’s Periodicals Directory that should be available near the end of June. This resource can help you find a journal in which to publish, see what a subscription costs, identify the members of the editorial board and answer the burning question of students everywhere: “is this journal peer reviewed?” Watch this space and the library web site for more details.
